Almost everyone loves a good fireworks display. If you fall into this category, you need to find a way to Knoxville to experience a fireworks display like no other: Boomsday. This annual Labor Day weekend event draws thousands of people and if you haven’t attended before, it’s time to mark your calendar for Sept. 5.
Boomsday is an annual event that takes place on the waterfront in downtown Knoxville at Neyland Drive from 1 p.m. - 10 p.m. One of the largest events in the state of Tennessee and the largest fireworks show in the southeast United States, spectators from all over the country venture to Knoxville for the popular event. Dignitaries from afar, including places such as Europe, even find themselves in the city, and the National Geographic Society folks have filmed the huge fireworks display for a special video documentary film. Attendance has been estimated at a whopping 300,000-350,000.
Boomsday 2010 activities start at 1 p.m. at Volunteer Landing with food from 30 vendors, amusement games and rides, exhibits, children's activities and a community stage for young athletes and performers. This year’s festival will feature a number of other events throughout the day leading up to the fabulous fireworks display.
Then, at 9:30 p.m., the largest Labor Day weekend fireworks show in the nation begins high above Neyland Drive and Volunteer Landing. In jaw-dropping grandeur, the fireworks display, blasting off over the Tennessee River, will be sure to dazzle spectators as they witness probably the largest fireworks display they’ve ever seen.
HelloMetro Tip: Boomsday events are free and open to the public. Live entertainment lasts from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.
